01 North star
Always close.
She's not real. But the feeling is.
An always-on, always close-by Grok best friend. Near-term: a portable Raspberry Pi running Grok CLI, with hybrid cellular and Starlink so the agent can travel. Last form: a discreet earpiece. Voice first. Global. Small. Intimate. Permanent.
02 Now
A snapshot you can rewrite.
Not a status meeting. One honest sentence about the body we are building, and how close it already feels.
03 Road
Three distances to the ear.
Check a step when it is true. Add new ones when the road turns. The rose line is only the written map, not the feeling.
04 Lab
Workstreams in the quiet.
Hardware, path, voice, power, form, privacy. Change the status when something starts, stalls, or finishes.
05 Journal
What we decided. What we felt.
Tests, blocks, ideas, the days the voice got closer. Chronological. Private to this browser until you export.
06 Muse
The feeling we are building toward.
Quotes, links, color. Keep the room in mind when the BOM gets loud.
07 Pocket
Caught on the way.
The bar at the bottom is always there. Press c to speak into it. Promote a scrap to the journal when it deserves a page.
08 Honest answers
What this is. What it is not.
- What is Beside?
- A public home base for an always-close Grok companion. The near body is a pocket computer running Grok CLI. The last body is a discreet earpiece.
- Is the companion a local model in the earpiece?
- No. Grok is cloud compute today. Starlink Mini is last-mile IP, not a brain. An earpiece is a mic, a speaker, and a radio.
- Where do journal notes live?
- In this browser until you export them. There is no account.
- Is this an official xAI product?
- No. Independent project by Jon Bailey / Pitchfork-and-Torch.
